Spotlight: Fanshaw - 'Dark Eyes'

Olivia Fetherstonhaugh is not in a hurry. For the last five years, between playing shows with band's like Vancouver's Choir Practice she has slowly crafted the songs that fill her solo debut - sometimes taking up to a year to craft a single song.

The end result is a masterpiece of minimalism - with every note and every word carefully selected to fit in with the whole. Dark Eyes - Fetherstonhaugh's solo debut, though it is released under her moniker Fanshaw.

No less thought was put into the recording of the album than went into it's writing. Backing fanshaw on the album are Larissa Loyva (P:ano, Kallarissa, the Choir Practice), Shane Turner (Love and Mathematics), Kyle Koenig (Love and Mathematics), Johnny Payne (Victoria Victoria, the Shilohs) and Ian Somers (Limblifter). It was recorded by Colin Stewart (Destroyer, Unicorns, Black Mountain, Immaculate Machine, Pink Mountaintops, Young and Sexy) and Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, the New Pornographers, You Say Party! We Say Die.)
